Ageing Management

and Long Term Operation Conference 2027

Řež, Czech Republic

What

is AMALTO?

AMALTO is a conference on ageing management and long term operation that brings together international experts to discuss the latest approaches to ensuring the safe, reliable and long term operation of nuclear power plants and research reactors. As many facilities worldwide consider operation beyond 60 years, effective ageing management has never been more important.

The conference will focus on practical solutions, lessons learned, and emerging strategies that support long term operation, with special emphasis on PWR and VVER reactors as well as the unique needs of research reactors.

The Conference is organized by ÚJV Řež in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Conference Topics

Regulatory framework for ageing management and LTO licensing

Cover national and international requirements (e.g., IAEA guidance), license renewal processes, and regulatory expectations for PWR and VVER plants.

Implementation of ageing management

Plant level ageing management programmes, scope setting of structures, systems and components for ageing management, methodologies, data management, walk-downs, ageing management review

Ageing management programmes (AMPs)

Structuring AMPs, and integrating them into plant management systems, lessons learned in managing ageing effects due to neutron embrittlement, void swelling, corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, environmentanlly assisted fatigue, degradation mechanisms of cables and concrete etc.

Time Limited Ageing Analyses (TLAAs)

Cover national and international requirements (e.g., IAEA guidance), license renewal processes, and regulatory expectations for PWR and VVER plants.

Inspection, monitoring, and diagnostics

Advanced NDT methods, online monitoring systems, digital tools, and data-driven condition assessment.

Operating experience and lessons learned

Case studies from PWR and VVER units (and other reactor types), including successes and challenges in ageing management and LTO implementation.

Modernization and digitalization

Use of digital twins, AI-based diagnostics, and upgrades of I&C systems.

Economics of ageing management and LTO

Risk-informed approaches to ageing managment, cost-benefit analysis of LTO and investment planning.
